San Miguel Schools Chicago announced that it will close its Gary Comer Campus on N. Leamington in July, at the end of the school year. The San Miguel family is deeply saddened by the necessity of the closing of the Gary Comer Campus. We are aware of the impact this will have on our students, staff and the community. It is a second home and family to many. The San Miguel School is not publicly funded and we rely on the generosity of private donors, corporations and foundations to provide 90‐95% of the entire operating budget and for that we are extremely grateful.
The closing comes at a time of record‐setting scholastic success. Recent standardized achievement testing saw the highest student scores in our 17‐year history, with all 8th graders performing at or beyond the 9th grade level, and more than half performing at the 11th grade level.
Through the Back of the Yards Campus San Miguel will continue our mission to provide inner‐city youth with an innovative and accessible educational experience, so that they can complete high school with the skills, support and self‐awareness to make the next productive choice in life.
