Each year, charitable foundations, corporations, businesses, universities, and organizations partner with us to provide critically needed support and services for our San Miguel scholars, their families and the greater Back of the Yards community. We are grateful for their gifts of time, talent, energy, advocacy, and financial support.
These partners support San Miguel School’s mission in many ways:
- The Big Shoulders Fund opens doors to opportunity for Back of the Yards middle schoolers by providing grant funding for general operating support, scholarships, event sponsorships, student enrichment activities, and professional development programs for faculty and staff.
- The Camp Out for Kids Foundation covers the full cost of an annual retreat at Camp Gray in Wisconsin, where San Miguel scholars can experience the peace of wild places, engage in team-building and leadership exercises, and enjoy outdoor adventures such as hiking and canoeing.
- Food for Friends partners with us to distribute holiday meals for San Miguel families and their neighbors.
- The Greater Chicago Food Depository partners with us to distribute fresh produce and groceries to hundreds of community residents.
- The Illinois Eye Institute provides free vision screening services and eyeglasses for San Miguel scholars in need.
- The Initial Teaching Alphabet Foundation supports our highest-need learners by funding our Initial Teaching Alphabet program, which uses a phonetic alphabet to help students master grade-level reading and writing skills.
- United Stand Counseling Center conducts academic assessments of all incoming San Miguel scholars, develops customized academic plans to address their deficits and build on their strengths, and provides ongoing counseling to help new and continuing students achieve their academic goals.
- The Andrew M. Greeley Center for Catholic Education at Loyola University Chicago provides instructional coaching and mentoring, as well as curriculum design and implementation, to support our faculty and administrators as they work together to meet the diverse needs of our students.
